This week Alizetics reopened it's 17 buying centers in several small villages in the northern counties of Tanzania. This was also the moment that Alizetics announced her purchase price for this season to the farmers.
Alizetics buys sunflower oilseeds from smallholder farmers and sells the seeds in bulk to oil processing companies in the Tanzanian domestic market. What makes us different from other traders is that we focus on cooperating with merely smallholders. We are transparant on the way we work, on the current marketprices, on the prices we offer and we take care of logistics, which can be a real challenge in remote areas. The price that we offer is 500 TSH per kilo while other local traders offer 450 TSH. Every buying center is manned with a local villager who takes care of the buying and storing of the seeds. The bags are weighted using approved scales by the Tanzanian government.
One of the farmers, Mr. Maduhu Shija, is very enthusiast about Alizetics and about to sell approximately 25 bags of seeds. He used planting seeds that he bought on credit via our sister social enterprise Agrics. This season has been a real challenge for all farmers in East Africa. In Tanzania the rains came weeks later than expected. Despite this fact Maduhu is happy with the outcomes, his field is bursting with the brightest sunflowers.
